I just love him!! Such a genuine sincere soul. I wondered where he landed and it a comfort to know.
God bless!!
Clarence Gilyard,Jr was one good looking son of a gun. He fit in perfectly with Andy as Matlock’s private investigator. Andy only kept good souls around him and Clarence was one of them. I hated to see him leave Matlock for Walker, Texas Ranger. However he was great in his new role, just as he was in Matlock. I loved him in Matlock better however. He loved Andy so much. They were a great team. I read somewhere when Andy and Don Knots did scenes together on Matlock and Clarence was in the scene, it was pure joy for Clarence to be with these two heavy weights. He was in awe watching them work together. Andy was his idol and it was a very, very hard decision for him to leave Matlock (basically Andy). He tried to do both series at the same time so he wouldn’t have to leave Andy. He was very loyal to Andy. However, trying to do both series at the same time was a real drain on him as Andy had his show set up in North Carolina, the East Coast and Walker was set up on the West Coast. All that flying to and from the emEast and West Coast put a real drain on him. He finally had to choose to leave Matlock. I read all of this several years ago in another post. I just love Clarence Gilyard and his loyalty to Andy and the show. What a guy!!
I thought Clarence was the greatest, I didn’t watch him very much with Andy but I watched him grow on Walker Texas Ranger, you could see him get better and better on Walker, I enjoyed Trivette with Walker, but everyone on Walker was great.
