I am 94 years old still working at our fabric store which has been in existance since 1945. My parents were Jewish, father from Poland and mother from russia. I was born in Middle Village, Queens. We lost our house in Queens during the depression and we moved into a cheap apartment in the Bronx. We were very poor for most of my life. Graduated High School at 16 and could not afford college. Worked in the fashion industry. Last job was for a Millinery buying office in N..Y. I was a buyer and bought hats for Department stores all over the country. A lot of famous hat designers including Lily Dache and Frederic March. At 25 I found my wonderful husband and we worked together in our fabric stores in Paterson, N.j and in our 50’s we decided to move to Tucson, Az to join our 2 sons who were attending University of Arizona We thought we were retired but we quickly got bored and in a few months opened a very small fabric store. Several years later we closed 2 small stores and opened a very large store.
My dear husband died in 2016 and I am still working at our store and want to keep working till my last breath as my husband did. I love my customers and I love what I am doing. My dream is to have a conversation with Iris Arpel
