While not active on the field any longer, Chris Long continues to live-tweet games, participate in podcasts, and appear on pre-game shows quite regularly. This NFL player had a legendary father to look up to, but he made his own name playing for eleven seasons straight.
When asked what prompted him to quit so early in his career, Chris makes it clear that though he played mostly for the St. Louis Rams for most of his career, it was the Eagles that he always wanted to be part of. But the team itself had a different strategy and went for the younger set of players, and even if Chris would be part of it, he would only be a reserve.
Maybe you know about Chris Long very well, but do you know how old and tall is he and what is his net worth in 2024? If you do not know, we have prepared this article about details of Chris Long’s short biography-wiki, career, professional life, personal life, today’s net worth, age, height, weight, and more facts. Well, if you’re ready, let’s start.
Early Life & Biography
Chris Long was born on 28 March 1985 to Howie Long and Diane. His father Howie was an NFL Hall of Famer as a defensive end. Chris was born and stayed in Santa Monica, California, and studied at St. Anne’s-Belfield School in Charlottesville, Virginia. While in school he was already a defensive end player and in his senior year in 2003, he was in on 91 tackles, 23 tackles for a loss, and 15 sacks, taking his team to victory in the UIL school championship. He also played in the 2004 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Long played basketball, lacrosse, and baseball in high school, but followed in his father’s footsteps to pursue professional football.
Chris Long played college football under head coach Al Groh from 2004 to 2007. Initially, in 2004 he was selected to play for the team but missed five games due to mononucleosis. By 2005, his tackles averaged 3.8 per game. In 2006, Long was voted team captain for his consistent performance. He made it to the finalist’s list for the Dudley Award, for the most outstanding player in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Personal Life
Long met Megan O’Malley at the University of Virginia, the two dated for sometime before marrying on 22 June 2013 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Unlike Long, O’Malley completed her degree course and graduated from the University of Virginia. She was also into sports and a member of the University of Virginia’s women’s lacrosse team. The couple has two sons, Waylon James Long, born on 2 March 2016, and Luke Redding Long, born on 26 November 2018.
Chris Long has two younger brothers, offensive lineman Kyle Long, who too is a retired NFL player and Howie Long Jr., a scouting assistant and personnel assistant for the Oakland Raiders. He is a great-nephew of Irvin Kershner, the film director.
Besides being a football enthusiast, Long is involved in many charities. In May 2015, he started an initiative to raise funds for building wells for East African communities, under The Chris Long Foundation. He is committed to providing education for all in America and to that effect had donated all his salary in 2017 to various charities.

On 19 July 2008, he signed a six-year contract with the Rams for $56.5 million and $29 million guaranteed.
Long’s first career sack was against Eli Manning of the New York Giants in September 2008. On 26 October 2008, he recorded his first 2-sack game versus the New England Patriots. At the end of his 2008 rookie season, he was voted All-Rookie by both the Pro Football Writers Association and Sporting News. In the 2008 season that Long played for the Rams, he started all 16 games, 14 as an of right defensive end and two as a left defensive end. 2009 was an equally rewarding season for Long, and his contribution to Rams’ success was quite eminent.
Finally in 2010, against the San Diego Chargers, Long recorded two sacks for which he was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week by the NFL. After he started playing permanently in the left defensive end position he changed his jersey number from 72 to 91. Around September 2011, Rams and Long revised his contract to include a $12.1 million signing bonus and a base salary in excess of $10 million in 2012.
2011 ended on a high note for Long as he had a career-high three sacks versus the New Orleans Saints and was named Sports Illustrated’s NFC Defensive Player of the Week. His contract was again revisited in July 2012 extending it by four years. This deal gave Long $60 million over a five year period (including the previous year) and $37 million guaranteed.
2013 was a mixed year with Long being fined $15,750 on the one hand for throwing a punch at Carolina Panthers offensive lineman Chris Scott, and on the other, he was recognized as co-NFC Defensive Player of the Week by Sports Illustrated (along with Robert Quinn).
The 2013 season’s success with 8.5 sacks was met with an all-time low in 2014 series with Long sitting out most of the games because of an ankle injury. This was the beginning of the end of his contract with Rams and his winning spell for the team. He played roughly 12 games for the Rams in 2015 and in early 2016 parted ways to sign a contract worth $2 million with the New England Patriots. Long played a significant role in the team’s wins in the AFC Championship and helped the team win Super Bowl LI.
It was on his 32nd birthday that Long finally signed a two-year contract with Philadelphia Eagles, his dream team. Long played in all 16 games in the 2017 season with five sacks and a career-high four forced fumbles. In what was an exciting Super Bowl LII, two of New England Patriot’s ex-players – Long and LeGarrette Blount – played a critical role in defeating New England and earning Eagles the title. 2018 did not have any massive career highs for Long and on 18 May 2019, Long announced his retirement.
