Natalie McIntyre was born on September 6, 1967, in Canton, Ohio, to Laura McIntyre and Otis Jones. Her father left when she was just a baby. She was raised by her mother, who was a math schoolteacher and her stepfather, who was a steelworker.
When she was seven years old, she started to learn the piano. She attended more than one school, including Canton South High School from where she graduated in the year 1985. While she was in a boarding school, she was expelled temporarily due to her behavior. Later, she went to the University of Southern California to study scriptwriting.
