Adam’s full name is Adam Charles Clayton; he was born in Chinnor, Oxfordshire, England, on 13 March 1960, and he is the oldest child in his family. His father, Brian Clayton, worked as a pilot in the Royal Air Force and later changed his job to work in civil aviation, and his mother Jo Clayton use to work as an Air-hostess. Until Adam was four years old, his father use to work for East African Airways in Kenya as a pilot.
When Adam was five years old, his family moved to Malahide near Fingal, County Dublin, Ireland, in 1965, where his brother Sebastian was also born. In County Dublin, Adam’s family became friends with David Evans’s family, who would later co-found the band U2 with Adam.

Adam was arrested in charge of carrying a small amount of marijuana in August 1989 in Dublin. However, he was not punished with any fees as he made a significant donation to the charity. The band U2 was formed in September 1976, when Larry Mullen put a notice onto the school board that he was seeking musicians to form a band.
