Robert Rechsteiner was born in San Bernadino County, California on March 9, 1961. He went to the University of Michigan where he was an amateur wrestling standout. In 1983 he was placed second at the Big Ten championship and became an NCAA qualifier he has also recorded the fastest pin record in the school’s history at 15 seconds.
In the same year at the NCAA tournament he wrestled against Tab Thacker of North Carolina State. Gorge Steele introduced Rick to wrestling after he earning his bachelor’s degree in education.

Career
He began his career in 1983 where he started wrestling using the name Rob Rechsteiner but later changed the name to Rick Steiner. Most of his time was spent in Universal Wrestling Federation (UWF) and American Wrestling Association, Montreal promotional international wrestling.
He teamed up with Sting while he was at UWF winning the UWF Wold Tag Team Championship in the year 1987. In 1988 Jim Crocket bought UWF and made it part of Jim Crocket Foundation (JCP) then Steiner then joined the promotions and won the Television Championships in the same year.
In 1989 he joined with his brother Scott Steiner to make a tag tea which eventually led to winning The World Tag Team Championship the following year. Rick with his brother Scott then moved to WCW which resulted to winning multiple championships and occasionally participating in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW).
Eventually Rick and his brother then moved to WWF in the year1992 and found success there increasing his popularity in great measure. They won the WWF world Tag Team Championships they left WWF after two years of competing.
Rick and his brother Scott joined Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW)in 1995 they competed for a whole year then they returned to WCW winning the World Tag Team Championship p in the year 1996. He had a shoulder injury and did not compete for 3 years. He then made his return in 1999 when he turned villain. He wrestled for promotions until 2001 when WWF bought WCW.
In 2002 Rick joined TNA making sporadic appearances for the company. In 2007 he partnered with his brother again and stayed in the company for a year until he was removed due to budget reduction.
In the year 2004 Rick started dealing with real estate. He is working with the Rick Steiner and associates at Atlanta community real estate Brokerage in North Metro Atlanta area.
