Greg Proops was born on 3rd October 1959, in Phoenix, Arizona to Steven G. Proops (father) and Doris Olive (mother). However, he was raised in San Carlos, California, a suburb south of San Francisco where he went to San Carlos High School.
He later went to the College of San Mateo and led the comedy duo, ‘Proops& Brakeman’. Later on, he took improvisation courses at the San Francisco State University but never completed his education there.

Mark Leveson and Dan Patterson, show producers, watched the performances of Greg Proops and Mc Shane and were quite impressed with their work. This was so much so that the producers cast the comedians on their improvisational comedy show; Whose Line Is It Anyway?. Greg spent four years in London because of the filming of the show.
After staying in London for that time, Greg went back to USA after the expiration of his work permit. He was cast on the American version of Whose Line Is It Anyway where he appeared in 71 episodes of the show, mostly as a fourth contestant.
From 2004, Greg was featured in every episode of Drew Carey’s Green Screen Show despite the show not lasting for a long time. The performers played improvisation games in the backdrop of a green screen which was later animated into the relevant props and backgrounds. He also hosted four popular game shows known as; Space Cadets in the mid-1990’s, VS in 1999, RendezViewin 2001 and Head Games in 2009.
Greg has also diversified into voice-over roles in many popular films and television shows. He has voiced Tim Burton in The Nightmare Before Christmas which was released in 1993 and played Bernard, a FUGG technician in Stripperella, an adult-animated show on Spike TV from 2003 to 2004. He did the voice of Fode in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, and Bob in the famous cartoon, Bob the Builder.
