Chris Roberts’s passion for his career commenced at a very early age, having grown around computers. His father also took a step ahead, having bought him a BBC Micro in the early 1980s. Chris enhanced his computer skills by attending extra-curricular classes at Manchester University.
He never got interested in what he was taught in school and would focus on writing codes for action games. Teachers realized and gave him an opportunity to create a game that would be attached to the Game of the Month magazine. This gave him his first opportunity in his career, earning him much while he was still at the age of 13 years.
While he was at the age of 18 years, he went to work at Origin Systems Inc., from which he developed games such as Bad Blood (1990) and Times of Lore (1988). He was highly influential for the company’s revenue growth from $4 million to $50 Million.
He later developed the Wing Commander in 1990, which got much popularity and became Origin’s most successful product. After this, he put concentration on Strike Commander but later was greatly involved in the development of other series of Wing Commander.
He left Origin in 1996, after which he founded the Digital Anvil together with his brother Erin Roberts and Tony Zurovec. Their first finished game was the Starlancer, released in 2000. Microsoft acquired the company, after which Roberts left but remained in consultation for a while.
After leaving Digital Anvil, he founded Point of No Return Entertainment, whereby he was planning to produce games, films, and many more though it did not become a success. He then founded Ascendant Pictures in 2002, where he became a film producer of Hollywood productions. The company faced several lawsuits challenging it and was later acquired in 2010 by Bigfoot entertainment.
