Bret was born on 2nd July 1957 in Calgary, Canada. He is the member of the world-famous Hart Family. His father is WWE Hall of Famer Stu Hart, who is the trainer of many famous wrestlers like Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, and Edge. Bret was trained by his father too in Hart Dungeon.
While he was at school, he was an amateur wrestler. Bret started his career in Stampede Wrestling, a promotion which is owned by Stu Hart. He also wrestled for some time in New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Career
Bret joined the WWE in the year 1984 and formed the Hart Foundation along with his brother in law Jim Neidhart. For their first tag team championships, they defeated the British bulldogs. In 90’s the team split-up and Bret concentrated on the singles championships. He won the Intercontinental Championship in 1991 where his opponent was Mr Perfect. He won his first WWE Championship defeating Ric Flair in the year 1992.
Bret won the King of the Ring twice, in 1991 and 1993 and became the only wrestler to achieve the feat. For the title of King, he had a long and major feud with Jerry Lawler. He had some other great feuds with his brother Owen and Yokozuna. In 1994, he lost the title to Bob Buckland and Owen was the one to blame. Though he regained the title, he lost it again to Shawn Michaels. He had some other major feuds with Stone Cold, The Undertaker, and Sycho Sid but at the time his real-life feud also started with Vince.
Vince let Michaels win over him in the famous Montreal Screwjob incident, and thus Bret left the WWE and went to WCW.
