Wasserman bought the Los Angeles Avengers of the Arena Football League in 1998. The franchise rights cost him almost $5 million and despite his youth, he was voted as the league’s chairman.
He negotiated the league’s pioneering national television contract with NBC television, as well as the league’s collective bargaining agreement with its players, in 2002. On Saturday, April 18, 2009, Wasserman sent an email to the de facto commissioner of the Arena Football League telling him of his decision to cancel the L.A. Avengers’ membership.
Still in 1998, Wasserman founded Wasserman (then-called Wasserman Media Group), a sports marketing and talent management firm and he is still the CEO. Wasserman Media Group rebranded as Wasserman in 2016 and is now known as “Team Wass.”
