David was born in a family where sports were highly adored. That is the reason why his majority of the family members are involved in several games. His father, David Ross, Sr., has played in a men’s softball league, and his mother played basketball. Ross had two sisters. Ross’s uncles were both football players in college. He went to the Florida High School, Florida State University’s laboratory school, in Tallahassee, Florida, where he played every sport he knew.

He started his career in 1995 when the Los Angeles Dodgers drafted him, but he changed his mind and got a scholarship to attend Auburn University instead. In 1998 the Dodgers redrafted Ross, this time in the 7th round. He made his MLB debut on June 29, 2002, striking out as a pinch hitter.
Ross signed a deal with the Boston Red Sox in the year 2008. He came up to the MLB club on August 29 and managed to become a free agent after the season. He managed to catch a career-high .289 for the Braves in 59 games in 2010.
