David Edward Williams was born In Wimbledon, London, at St. Teresa’s Maternity Hospital on August 20, 1971, to parents Peter and Kathleen Williams. His father, Peter, worked as a transport engineer in London while his mother Kathleen worked as a laboratory technician at the Sutton Grammar School. David was raised in the residential area of Nork, located in Banstead, Surrey, where he resided with his father and sister Julie.
David completed his schooling from Collingwood Boy’s School in Wallington and Reigate Grammar School in Surrey, where he was a contemporary writer under Robert Shearman. David then enrolled in the University of Bristol in 1989, where David studied Arts (Drama) and graduated with a Bachelors’s in 1992. During his holidays in 1990, David was performing at the National Youth Theatre, where he came across his future co-star Matt Lucas. After he joined Equity, he changed his stage name to David Walliams.
