For the lovers of evening talk shows, Desus and Mero must be a common name. This is a television late-night talk show series in America that is hosted by two comedians named The Kid Mero and Desus Nice. The premiere of the show was on 21st February 2019 on the streaming service Showtime and Premium cable.

The first season of the show debuted on 21st February in 2019 and was able to garner positive reviewers from the viewers. As the first season was concluding in November the same year, Showtime announced that the show would be renewed for a second season, which saw its debut on 3rd February in 2020.

One of the hosts named Desus Nice is a Jamaican-American comedian whose real names are Daniel Baker. He is a YouTuber and a television and Twitter personality. He became famous after the release of Desus vs. Mero, which was aired on Complex Tv.

The other host is known as Joel Martinez (born May 15, 1983), but his stage name is The Kid Mero. The Kid Mero is a Dominican-American comedian, writer, voice actor, TV personality, YouTube personality Twitter personality, and music blogger. He also became popular after Desus vs. Mero was first aired on Complex TV.

Inception

Desus and Mero can be said to be the newer version of Desus vs. Mero, which was a 2014 Complex TV web series. There was also another one that was aired on Viceland television named Desus & Mero web series, which was released in 2016.

After the two series were over, Showtime decided to give the duo a chance of showcasing their gifting as comedians and taking it to another level. They ordered a half-hour series that starred Desus and Mero to be aired late night. The show began in June 2018, the show was launched, and it became the first late-night show to be aired on Showtime network.

Jesus vs. Mero was the first show to be hosted by Desus Nice and The Kid Mero. The show was hosted by Bronx natives, and they were so eager to see it move to the next level. The first release of this podcast was on 18th December 2013, and it had a total of 46 episodes. After the episodes were ended on 31st December 2014, the two took a break, but they didn’t stop entertaining their fans whenever they got an opportunity.

After the end of the Desus VS Mero, Desus Nice and The Kid Mero have continued working together and have appeared on different television series. Some of these series include; Uncommon sense, MTV2’s Guy Code, and Joking Off. They have also been featured as the hosts of Desus and Mero 2019 on Showtime and Desus and Mero (2016). The shows that were aired were based on different themes. Some of the themes include; The Caucasity of Cheese, Box-getting in the Snow, Vegan Quarter Waters, among others.

Evolution

After the 46 episodes of Desus VS Mero were finished, the duo continued appearing in different television series. This was followed by the start of the Desus & Mero, which was an American television late-night talk show that was hosted by The Kid Mero and the Desus Nice. The show ran from 17th October 2016 to 28th June 2018 on Viceland.

The show hosts, however, left Viceland in 2018, and they joined the Showtime by the same name (Desus & Mero), which was first aired on 21st February 2019. This became the second series to be co-hosted by Desus and Mero, and it follows the 2014 series known as Desus VS Mero, which was hosted on Complex TV.

Desus and Mero confessed that the increased budget makes it possible for them to produce more pre-recorded sketches, an upgraded set, and a research team. They were also able to hire a writer’s room, which was occupied by the following writers; Mike Pielocik, Claire Friedman, Josh Gondelman, Robert Komhauser, Ziwe Fumudoh, Heben Nigatu, and Robert Komhauser.

The debut of the series was on 21st February 2019; their first guest was Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. On 21st April 2019, the good news was announced to fans of Desus & Mero as the show was extended to air twice a week. Mondays and Thursdays were the choice nights for airing this great show. On 21st November 2019, the airing of the final episode of Desus & Mero Season One was aired. However, this was not the end as Showtime announced there would be a renewal of the second season of the show.

The second season of the show was aired on 6th February 2020, and the second season had a total of more than 50 episodes. Desus and Mero have been positively reviewed by its fans. Many critics agree that the two comedians are natural, and their perspective about different themes feels genuinely new. No matter who their guest is, you can be sure that you will enjoy watching the show. This explains the reason why Showtime has continued supporting them to date.

Apart from receiving positive reviews from viewers, the Desus & Mero has been able to attract the attention of different parties.
