Geoff Tate was born on the 14th of January 1959 in Stuttgart, West Germany, to American parents, Ella and Perry Tate. However, the family relocated to Tacoma, Washington, U.S. soon after. He started showing interest in music at an early age itself. He aspired to be a football player, but a knee injury ended that possibility. When it comes to his education, he went to Tacoma Community College after graduating from High School in 1977 but dropped out after a year.

Geoff Tate’s career began with the band, Tyrant. After the brand split, he joined the band, Babylon. After Babylon broke up, he joined the band, The Mob, but left it after a few shows as he was not interested in performing heavy metal cover songs. He then joined the metal band, Myth as the lead vocalist and worked on keyboards as well. Geoff worked with The Mob in 1981 to record a demo tape, which was later released as an EP in 1982 on the 206 Records label.
He has also written the band’s song, “The Lady Wore Black.” In 1981, The Mob changed their name to Queensrÿche. Around this time, Geoff left Myth to become Queensrÿche’s permanent lead singer. Queensrÿche was signed to EMI in the summer of 1983. As a part of the band, he gained huge success with the band, “Operation: Mindcrime” (1988) and “Empire” (1990).
The band has sold over 20 million albums worldwide. On the 20th of June 2012, he was terminated from the band to which he and his wife Susan (who served as the band’s manager from 2005–2012) filed a lawsuit saying that he was wrongfully terminated from the group.
