Parker started racing go-karts in the neighbourhood of his house in Denver, North Carolina. He then moved on to street stock racing at Concord Motorsports Park, where he won seven of his first eighteen starts. He began racing Late Models the next season and finished fifth in points. The following year, he won two races.
Parker joined the Slim Jim All Pro Series, a defunct NASCAR touring series in Southeast USA, in 1997. Parker won one race and was awarded the most popular driver in the series. He also made his NASCAR debut at the Jiffy Lube Miami 300 at Homestead, starting 41st and finishing 23rd in the No. 78 Mark III Financial Chevrolet.
Parker returned to the 78 in 1998 with the goal of running the entire schedule. He was released after failing to qualify for the majority of his efforts. He didn’t race again until the AC Delco 200, where he placed sixth driving his father’s No. 53 B.A.S.S Chevrolet.
Parker drove his father’s vehicle full-time in 1999, finishing 18th in points with two top-five finishes. Despite missing five races, he finished second to Tony Raines for Rookie of the Year. Parker got Team Marines sponsorship in 2000 and achieved his first career pole position at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. In addition, he scored eight top-ten finishes and a career-high fourteenth place in points.
Parker planned to transfer GNC to PPC Racing at the end of the 2002 season, but owing to a new legislation restricting supplement advertising, GNC withdrew from NASCAR, leaving him without a full-time seat in 2003.
He started the season by competing for Brewco Motorsports in two races, finishing sixth at Darlington Raceway. That season, he competed in four additional races for NEMCO Motorsports and Chance 2 Motorsports, finishing fifth twice. He also drove the No. 75 for Spears Motorsports in the Craftsman Truck Series, finishing in the top ten twice.
Parker signed with Innovative Motorsports’ new Craftsman Truck squad in 2004. He finished at the 17thposition in points with four top-ten finishes. Innovative, unfortunately, closed its doors at the end of the season, leaving Parker jobless once more. In 2005, he made his last start at Nashville, filling in for Carl Edwards. He won the pole but came in 20th place.
Parker subsequently opted to retire from racing and began producing Hank Parker 3D, an outdoor-themed television show with his father and brother.
