Iron Maiden is a popular English heavy metal band which was formed by bassist and songwriter Steve Harris. It’s discography consist of 38 albums which includes 16 studio albums, 4 EP’s, 12 live albums and seven compilation. History
Iron Maiden was formed in the year 1975 by bassist Steve Harris who is a bassist. The initial members of the band included vocalist Paul Di’Anno, drummer Doug Sampson, guitarist Dave Murray and Harris himself. Before hiring guitarist Dennis Stratton in 1979, the band had already released an EP.
Dough Sampson was later replaced by Clive Burr, with whom Iron Maiden in the year 1980 released their self-titled debut album. After the recording of their third album, The Number of the Beast, Burr replaced the band’s drummer Nicko McBrain.
The album topped the album chart in Britain and also initiated the seven consecutive platinum or gold albums streak in the United States.
Iron Maiden was considered as the superstars of heavy metal as the remained in the Top 25 of Billboard’s chart for several of the music albums.
Career
The band Iron Maiden started its musical journey by releasing an EP, The Soundhouse Tapes which was inspired by the do-it-yourself punk ethos. The Number of Beast which also featured the new vocalist Bruce Dickinson topped the album chart in the UK.
The band then released the several UK and US gold as well as platinum albums like Live After Death (1985), Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (1988), Fear of the Dark (1992), Somewhere In Time (1987), No Prayer for the Dying (1990).
The band’s fifteenth studio album “The Final Frontier” went to No.1 in almost 28 countries and the sixteenth studio album “The Book of Souls” which was released in 2015 also received worldwide critical acclaim.
In 2017 Sunday Times reported that the band had sold more than 100 million copies of their music albums worldwide. In 2002 the band won the “Ivor Novello Award” for its international achievement.
Some of their other charting albums include Brave New World (2000), A Matter of Life and Death (2006), Dance of Death (2003).

In 2011, Iron Maiden’s single “El Dorado” won the Grammy Award in the category of Best Metal Performance. They were nominated for the same award in 1994 for their single “Fear of the Dark” and in 2001 for “The Wicker Man.”
In 2003, the band was nominated for the Kerrang! Awards in the “Best Live Act” category and they were also inducted into their Hall of Fame” 2 years later. In 2006, their album “A Matter of Life and Death ” was awarded the best heavy metal album of the year.
Iron Maiden has won 9 awards at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards. In 2006, their official mascot “Eddie” was nominated for the Golden Gods awards. They have also won a BRIT Award for the Best British Live Act in the year 2009.
