He was born in a working-class family as his father was a plumber when his mother used to work in a cafeteria. In 1974 he formed the Venture capital firm where he would go on and finance Marcus and Blank, who founded Home Depot Company. From 1999-2003 Ken Langone was the chairman of the New York Stock Exchange. His reign at the NYSE didn’t go very smoothly as in 2004, and he was named in a lawsuit for approving a pay package to his predecessor worth $100 million. The lawsuit would later be dismissed by the NEW York Court of Appeal in 2008 on grounds the NYSE had changed status from non-profit to profit organization by then.
