The business world, as we know, it is growing each and every day, with new enterprises and innovations popping up every day. The business world is very wide, and it does not take a professional to venture into the business. In 1883, the fifth child out of ten children used up $372 of his life savings to open up a grocery store in downtown Cincinnati. Through persistence and the drive to always please his customers, this simple grocery store grew to become the second-largest retailer in America.

The man behind the formation of this company was Bernard Kroger. He was the son of a merchant, and perhaps it could be said he had learnt a few things here and there about running a business. In the beginning years of his business, Robert believed in one motto, “Be particular. Never sell anything you would not want yourself.” With this one motto, the grocery store grew, and by 1902, he had around forty stores under his name. This chain of retail stores soon became to be known as Kroger Company. The company’s success has been quite remarkable during their years in operation.

Because of their undisputed success over the years, the company is highly respected. It is known as the United States’ largest supermarket by revenue ($121.16 billion for the fiscal year 2019), the second-largest general retailer (behind Walmart), and the fifth-largest retailer in the world and the fourth largest American-owned private employer in the United States. The feats openly prove how successful the company is.

Inception

The chain of supermarkets known as Kroger was begun in 1883 by Bernard Kroger, the son of a merchant. He used up his life savings of $372 to open a grocery store in downtown Cincinnati. He had only one simple motto, “Be particular. Never sell anything you would not want yourself.” In 1884, he opened his second store and 1902; the Kroger Grocery and Baking Company had been incorporated. At this point, Kroger was the pioneer of so many things, such as self-service shopping, having its own bakery, and the first grocery store to monitor product quality.

In 1955, Kroger had begun to expand to other areas within the United States. It began buying out other grocery store companies in other states. Examples of states are Henke & Pillot, with 26 stores in Houston, Texas. Others include the Krambo Food Stores, Inc. in Appleton, Wisconsin, Child’s Food Stores, Inc. of Jacksonville, Texas, and many others. In the 1970s, the company began to pull out of areas with fewer profit gains due to competition from other supermarket stores. Following the 1980s, the story was still the same; the company was still expanding its number of retail stores around the country and also pulling down stores in non-profitable areas.

As the years flew by, so was the success of Kroger. The company never stopped expanding its reach within the country. The company was dealing with most of the other competitive grocery stores and bidding them out to sell their stores to them. By the 2000s, the company was now a very big success as it continued growing almost every day.

In the new century, the company was still pushing harder and pioneering other shopping methods. By 2023, the company wishes to have developed an online shopping system that would get rid of a lot of the cashiers. The company also delivers wine to customers in around 19 states in the country. According to 2016, the company was named the second largest retail store company after Walmart stores in America.

Evolution

The Kroger is considered as the largest supermarket in the United States of America in terms of revenue. The company has been nothing but success over the past century. The company is unique not just because of the number of stores it has, but also because of pioneering a lot of new methods over the years.

  1. They won’t last long stealing money from retired people and disabled people and veterans.
They take your money on your bank and duplicate charge you and make you wait a month to get back your funds. Someone needs to sue them for their $40 billion to teach them how to conduct business honestly
