There is not much information about Laurene Powell’s early childhood. She was born on November 6, 1963, in West Milford, New Jersey. Young Laurene lost her father, a pilot to a plane crash when she was just three years old. She was brought up by her mother, who remarried a few years later. In The Man Who Thought Different: A Biography, he admits: “I was in the parking lot with the key in the car, and I thought to myself, ‘If this is my last night on earth, would I rather spend it at a business meeting or with this woman? I ran across the parking lot, asked her if she’d have dinner with me. She said yes, we walked into town, and we’ve been together ever since.”
After dating for a couple of years, Powell and Jobs married on 18 March 1991 at Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park. Their wedding was presided over by Kobun Chino Otogaw, a Zen Buddhist monk.
