Early Life
Metta World Peace was born on 13 November 1979 and grew up in Queens, New York. He was born as Ronald William Artest Jr., but on 16 September 2011, he officially renamed himself as “Metta World Peace.” He is the eldest child of his parents. His two younger brothers are Daniel and Isaiah. Initially, he joined La Salle Academy and played his high school level basketball there.
Afterward, he joined St. John’s University and from 1997 to 1999, he played college-level basketball at this University. He graduated in mathematics from St. John’s. While Metta was playing basketball in the various tournaments of New York, he got a lot of fame and was even given different nicknames, like “The New World Order” and “Tru Warier.”

During the 1999 NBA draft, the ‘Chicago Bulls’ selected Metta World Peace to play his first professional game. For the next 2.5 years, he continued to play for the ‘Bulls’ in 175 games. During this time, his average points and rebounds were 12.5 and 4 per game respectively. Metta was listed in the Second Team of NBA All-Rookie for the 1999-2000 season. In the mid of 2001, he was bought by the ‘Indiana Pacers.’ While playing for the ‘Pacers’ in the 2003-04 season, his average score was 3.7 assists/game, 5.7 rebounds/game, and 18.3 points/game.
During the NBA All-Star Game of 2004, Metta was hailed as the most defensive player of that year. In a fight between the ‘Pacers’ and the ‘Detroit Pistons’ on 19 November 2004, Metta’s name surfaced as the main culprit, and so he was suspended by the NBA for all the remaining games of the regular season.
He was also barred from playing any playoff games. In the 2005-2006 seasons, on Metta’s request, he was again bought by the ‘Indiana Pacers.’ On 25 January 2006, Metta was traded by the ‘Pacers’ with ‘Sacramento Kings’ despite Metta’s unwillingness to play with the ‘Kings.’ With Metta in their team, the ‘Kings’ displayed their best performance in the 2006 season.
On 14 August 2008, Metta was bought by the ‘Houston Rockets’ to play for the 2008-09 season. Playing for the ‘Rockets,’ Metta performed well, but due to some fouls, he was barred from playing a few games. In 2009, Metta was bought by the ‘Los Angeles Lakers’ for five years.

He was bought by the ‘New York Knicks’ for the 2013-14 season and by the ‘Sichuan Blue Whales’ for the 2014-15 season. However, due to his knee injury, he couldn’t play for all the games.
In a total of 15 games that he played for the ‘Whales,’ he scored an average of 2.3 steals, six rebounds and 19 points per game. On 24 September 2015, Metta again returned to the ‘Lakers’ and played for two seasons. He performed very well during these two seasons and led the ‘Lakers’ to new heights.
