Early Life & Biography
Born on April 19, 1942, Chicago, Illinois, US, to Michael J. Madigan Sr. and Mary Rita Madigan and raised in the neighborhood of Chicago. Michael went to Saint Adrian’s Elementary School, St. Ignatius College Prep, and The University of Notre Dame in Chicago and graduated from both respectively. While the first year at Loyola University, as a law student in 1965, Madigan purchased a membership of the Lake Shore Club to meet with Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley in search of a job where he introduced himself as Madigan’s son.
Daley’s son, Richard M. Daley, was also a law student, where they worked closely with Madigan in the appointed job at the city law department. Madigan’s father suffered a heart attack in 1958 and another fatal one in 1966, leading to his death.
Richard M. Daley and Michael Madigan participated in writing the Constitution of Illinois, which was approved by voters in 1970.
Madigan also founded the private law firm, Madigan and Getzendanner with a one year his senior law graduate from Loyola, Vincent J. Getzendanner.
