On October 30, 1941, Otis Myles Jr was born to Otis Myles and Hazel Louise Williams in Texarkana, Texas, United States. His parents separated shortly after his birth, and his mother remarried when he was a toddler. She moved to Detroit in Michigan, leaving Williams to be raised by both his grandparents. Williams’s mother later moved him to Detroit when he was ten to live with her and his stepfather.

Otis Williams is single. In 1961 he married Josephine Rogers, and the couple had a son Otis Lamont who was born the same year. Otis Lamont was a constructor who unfortunately died by swan diving off the building in a workplace accident in Detroit in the year 1983. Williams and Josephine divorced in 1964. Williams later got engaged to Patti Labelle; however, she ended the engagement when he asked her to quit music and become a housewife.
Williams married Ann Cain from 1967-1973; he later married his third wife, Arleata Goldie Williams, in 1983, and Arleata’s daughter became the 1994’s playboy playmate of the month for June 1994. Otis Williams became interested in music in his teenage years and adopted his mother’s name for his stage name, Williams Otis, which put together a number of singing groups such as; Otis Williams and The Siberians, The El Domingoes and The Distance. The Distance scored a local hit, co-written by Williams and their manager Johnie Mae Matthews, entitled come on. However, the future recording with the Distance was not successful, leading to Williams and his crew to quit the group. Later Eddie Kendrick’s and Paul Williams from the primes joined Williams, Bryant, and franklin to create ‘’The Temptations’’.
The temptations became one of the most successful in soul music for over five decades. However, the group encountered frequent changes and troubles that Williams and Melvin’s franklin promised each other that they would never quit the group. Franklin remained in the group until he became physically incapable of continuing in 1994. He, however, died on February 23, 1995, leaving Otis Williams as the only surviving original member of the group at 53 years old.
Apart from singing, Williams is also the co-author of the temptation book -1988, which served as both his autobiography and history of the group. Otis Williams was later inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame as the member of temptations in 1989. He later received an honorary doctorate from Stillman College in 2006.
