Anfernee Deon Hardaway was born in Memphis on July 18, 1971. He brought up with his maternal grandmother and got his beautiful nickname “Penny” from her. She used to call him “Pretty” that turns to “Penny.”
He started playing basketball at Treadwell High School. He got National High School Player of the Year Award for Parade Magazine with 36.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 6.2 assists.
