Hendrick grew up on the farm of his family. He was fond of cars and used to troubleshoot and diagnose cars. He started Drag Racing at the age of 14 in a self-made Chevrolet. He also won a car troubleshooting contest in his teenage, arranged in Virginia division. He was considered a very good player of baseball while attending Park View High School in Virginia South Hill. After high school, he decided to practice cooperative work-study with a private electric company and North Carolina State University.
Personal life
Hendrick married Linda Hendrick, who later turned into Co-owner of All-Star Racing. Hendrick and his wife Linda have experienced a plane crash in which they both survived. He has two children named Ricky Hendrick (Late) and Lynn Carlson.
Hendrick was found guilty to mail fraud in 1997 and was sentenced to a $250,000 fine and has no involvement in Hendrick Motorsports, 3-year probation and home confinement for 12 months. During his life of confinement, the company was operated by his brother Jim Perkins.
