He was almost blind at the time of birth due to congenital disorder, and He was abandoned by his mother as an infant he was raised by his grandparents in Smoky mountains till five years. Then he was enrolled in a blind school known as the Governor Morehead School in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was passionate about music, and he started his training in classical music after his instructors observed his remarkable musical talent.
He learned the piano, violin, and guitar. He became an excellent pianist. He worked with America record producer Chips Moman helped him work as a session musician on various songs of Elvis Presley, such as Don’t Cry Daddy 1969 and Kentucky Rain 1970. Milsap was born on 16th January 1943 in Robbinsville, North Carolina. He got a disorder that left him completely blind from birth. His mom abandoned him as an infant, and he was raised in poverty by his grandparents in the Smoky Mountains until he was sent to the Governor Morehead School for the blind in Raleigh at the age of five. In his childhood, he realized he had a passion for music, particularly the late-night radio broadcasts of country music, gospel music rhythm and blues.
His instructors noticed his musical talent at the age of seven he began studying classical music formally at Governor more head and learned several instruments. Unfortunately, one of the school parents slapped him, and it caused him to lose the limited vision he had on his left eye. Milsap became interested in the rock and roll genre of music and formed a rock band called the Apparitions with fellow high school students.
He was awarded a full college scholarship and briefly attended Young Harris College in Young Harris, Georgia, with plans to become a lawyer. During this time, he joined a popular local R&B band called the Dimensions that played gigs in the Atlanta area. He declined a scholarship to law school and left college to pursue a full-time career in music.
In 1965 he scored his first hit with the Ashford& Simpson penned single ‘Never Had It So Good, which peaked at No 19 .on the R$B chart in November of that year. In the 1960s, after moving to Memphis, Tennessee, he worked for producer Chips Moman and became a popular weekly attraction at the Memphis nightclub T.J’s.
That same year he made the lower reaches of the pop charts with the single ‘Loving You Is Natural Thing he recorded and released his debut album. In December 1972, He relocated to Nashville after a chance meeting with music star Charley Pride who was in the audience for a Milsap gig at the nightclub Whiskey in Los Angeles.
Pride was impressed with Milsaps singing and encouraged him to change course and focus on country music. In 1973 he released his first single for RCA that year, ’I Hate You,’ which became his first country music success peaking at no ten on the chart in 1974. In Love, Woman in Love, wouldn’t have missed it for the world, what a difference you’ve made in my life there are more. I had brain surgery 6 years ago so some memory shortage only have left side of brain seizures flattened right side of brain to many seizures. I sing your music, George Strait, Johnny Lee one Kenney Chesney and one Luke Bryant but you are my all time favorite. I wanted to see your concert in the 80’s you were coming to Vancouver, BC , Canada but you had to postpone. Love your music to this day have never listened to the rock only country.
