Rooster Teeth Productions, LLC, commonly known as Rooster Teeth is an American production company. The company is famous because of the production of Red Vs. Blue, the longest-running web-series of all time. Rooster Teeth was founded by Burnie Burns, Matt Hullum, Geoff Ramsey, Jason Saldaña, Gus Sorola and Joel Heyman.
History & Wiki
While at the University of Texas, Burnie, Matt, and actor Joey made an independent film called The Schedule. The film was not a success but helped Hullum and Heyman to get a job in Los Angeles. Burns started working for a local company where he met Geoff Ramsey, Gustavo Sorola, Dan Godwin, and Jason Saldaña, and the five formed a site called drunkgamers.com, where they would give critics about a video game while they are drunk.
The crew of the site created a non-gameplay video of the Apple Switch ad campaign and focused on lack of video games available for the Apple Macintosh.
The two main reasons they changed their name from “drunk gamers” to “Rooster Teeth” because it sounded too unprofessional and they weren’t getting any sponsors. Also, the name Rooster Teeth is a euphemism for cockbite, an insult from the original Red Vs. Blue trailer.
Rooster Teeth’s business strategy is a hybrid-model composed of subscriptions, onsite pre-roll ads, YouTube pre-roll ads, licensed studio productions, branded merchandise, and annual live events.
Initially Rooster Teeth, in order to maintain their own community site was not ready to join Youtube. Soon they signed a two-year lease and moved into stage 5 at Austin Studios. The company released their feature film debut, a science fiction comedy called Lazer Team.
Rooster Teeth has set up their office in Los Angeles.
