Scrooge McDuck is a fictional character forged by Carl Banks for the Walt Disney company. The Scottish duck happens to be rich and mean uncle of Donald Duck. In 1947, he made his first appearance in Four Color Comic’s ‘Christmas on Bear Mountain’ story. Over the years, he has become one of the popular and recognizable characters of Disney due to his multiple appearances in the supporting role.
Early Life
Scrooge McDuck was born in Scotland in December 1867. His name was inspired by Charles Dickens ‘A Christmas Carol’ protagonist Ebenezer Scrooge. He is the son of Downy O’Drake and Fergus McDuck.
The uncle of Donald Duck maintains a healthy relationship with two of his sisters, Hortense and Matilda McDuck. Gideon McDuck is the younger brother of Mr. McDuck.
The sharp-minded duck never completed his education but pursued his career as a Treasure Hunter. He made his appearance as a business tycoon in Christmas on Bear Mountain in December 1947. In 1948’s The Old Castle’s Secret comic, he established himself as a popular treasure hunter. From 1940 to 1950, Mr. McDuck made fewer appearances ahead of the audience.
His character gained a lot of attention in the 1950s The Magic Hourglass where Donald Duck mentioned about him owning the Duckburg. Scrooge revealed his dark side in all the comic appearances between 1950 to 1980.
