Starbucks Corporation Is an American chain of Coffeehouse and coffee company.  Having been found in 1971, in Seattle, Washington, today, the company operates in over thirty thousand locations globally. They serve both cold and hot drinks in their location; they include espresso, whole-bean coffee, Caffe latte, and teas.

They also serve Evolution fresh juices, La Boulange pastries, Frappuccino beverages, and snacks like fries and crackers. Most of their store’s sale already packed food. They have a special packaging for their customers; their drinkware is packed in tumblers and mugs.

Inception

Starbucks’ first store was opened in Seattle, Washington, on 31 March 1971. It was founded by three partners Jerry Baldwin, an English teacher, Zev Siegl a History teacher, and Gordon Bowker, a writer, they all met at the University of San Francisco where they studied.

After they had been taught how to roast coffee beans by Alfred Peet, who was a coffee roasting entrepreneur, they were greatly inspired to sell coffee beans of high quality. Before settling on the name Starbucks for their company, they had brainstormed on others

Their first store was located in Seattle between 1971-1976 at the 2000 Western Avenue, and it was moved to 1912 Pike Place later on. At the start they only sold whole coffee beans which were roasted, the green beans were purchased from Peet and later began buying them from the growers directly.

Evolution

The second store that the three founders of Starbucks bought was Peet’s in 1984, led by Jerry Baldwin. By 1986 they operated six Starbucks in Seattle, and they had initiated the sale of espresso coffee. In 1987 Starbucks was sold to Howard Schultz by the founders; Howard rebranded his two Coffee outlets to Starbucks and started to expand swiftly. Its first store outside Seattle was opened at the Waterfront Station in Vancouver, British Columbia, and also in Chicago, Illinois. In 1989, Starbucks had a chain of 46 stores through the Midwest and Northwest. Every year it roasted an approximation of 2,000,000 pounds of coffee.

During the Initial public offering in June 1992 at the Stock Market, Starbucks had one hundred and forty outlets; their revenue has grown to US$73.5 million from US$1.3 million in the year 1987. The company market value had grown to $271 million at that time. 12% were sold for 25 million; these millions were used to double the number of stores in a period of two years. Starbucks ‘ market Price rose by 70% by September 1992.

They launched a mobile app “Starbucks app,” and in July 2013, more than ten percent of purchases were made using the app. In October 2013, they launched a promotion on Twitter, which was called Tweet-a -coffee” This campaign was closely monitored by a research firm, and it found out that 27000 people participated in this campaign, and they sold around$180,000.  It was ranked in 2018 at the number 132nd largest Corporations in the United States by revenue on the Fortune 500.
