Steel Panther is a popular American rock band, which is most well-known for its non-religious witty lyrics, and they are over the top on-stage persona. The band is comprised of the members, Ralph Saenz (a.k.a. Michael Starr) on vocals, Russ Parrish (a.k.a. Satchel) on guitar, Travis Haley (a.k.a. Lexxi Foxx) on bass, and Darren Leader (a.k.a. Stix Zadinia) on drums.
Inception
The group was formed in the year 2000 under the name Metal Skool. The band used to perform on Mondays at the Viper Room and eventually at the Key Club. They eventually found success and in 2003, released their debut EP, “Hole Patrol” which was self-produced. They then appeared in a Discover Card advertisement as Danger Kitty and in the popular TV series, “Drew Carey Show.” Their cover of the song, “Fantasy,” was featured on the popular reality TV series, “Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory” as the opening musical theme. In April of 2008, the band changed their name from Metal Skool to Steel Panther.
Evolution
The band secured a contract with Republic Records in May of 2008, and on the 8th of June 2009, they released their debut album, “Feel the Steel,” which reached the number 1 position of the Billboard Comedy Chart and captured the number 98 position on the Billboard 200 chart. The album’s single, “Eyes of a Panther” is featured on the soundtrack for the video game, “Skate 3”.
In 2011, they released their second album, “Balls Out,” which captured the number 1 position on the UK iTunes Rock Chart and captured the number 4 position on the US iTunes Rock chart. In 2014, they released their third album, “All You Can Eat” with the label, Open E Music.
The band went on a UK Tour in March of 2015, and they sold out every venue on tour. They released their fourth album, “Lower the Bar” on the 24th of March 2017. Their fifth album, “Heavy Metal Rules,” was released in September of 2019.
