William Theodore Katt was born on February 16, 1951, in Los Angeles to his parents Bill Williams and Barbara Hale. His parents were professional television and film actors who starred in several popular movies of the 1950s.

Katt spent most of his childhood days in the San Fernando Valley. He completed his graduation from the Army & Navy Academy, Carlsbad, California.
